A twin-screw requires a fair bit of power to spin, which means more parasitic drag on the engine versus a centrifugal design, but less than a roots. Twin-screw designs are more efficient than a roots, and almost all run at lower temperatures, but they still benefit from the use of an intercooler due to its position on top of the motor.
A supercharger doesn’t work off the exhaust gas, it is attached to your engine and spins with the crankshaft. When the crankshaft spins the supercharger, it forces air into the motor. The turbo is more efficient as it doesn’t require engine power to spin it, so it makes more power per boost. A supercharger also does not create full boostIn the US, Twin Turbos had wider (8.5") rear wheels. Twin Turbos have a boost gauge in the gauge cluster under the speedometer. When looking in the engine bay, Twin Turbos have four intake pipes visible, while NAs have two. When looking in the engine bay, 90-93 Twin Turbos had HICAS solenoids mounted near the power steering reservoir. Engine
The difference comes down to packaging, it is much much easier to package a twin turbo set up. Further more due to the prevalence of turbos for 1-3 litre inline engines turbos that match one bank of a vee engine are available in much greater variety than single turbos of size to match a large displacement engine. The twin-turbo 3.5 EcoBoost V6 works well in the mountains at altitude. The dash of the Ford Transit is functional and basic. A powerful A/C system keeps everyone chilled, front-to-back. The SYNCLike the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8s from Audi and Mercedes and the 4.4-liter from BMW, it features two twin-scroll turbos mounted in the valley of the vee, cylinder deactivation of four cylindersFord 3.5L EcoBoost Engine. The EcoBoost 3.5L is a twin-turbocharged V6 engine from Ford Motor used to power midsize and full-size cars, pickup trucks, supercars and utility vehicles, or more commonly known as SUVs. Featuring a dual overhead cam (DOHC) design, in a V configuration, the Ford 3.5L EcoBoost architecture has been part of the Ford This is the arrangement of twinchargers which is much more common. The supercharger and the turbocharger are set up so that the output put of the first induction system feeds into the intake valve of the second induction system in sequence. In most cases, the supercharger is connected to a medium-sized turbocharger. This system eliminates turbo The twin turbo configuration has two GTX3582R Gen II turbo chargers with 66mm compressor and 68mm turbine wheels and 1.01 V-band turbine housings. The GTX3582R turbochargers are are available in standard and reverse rotation options for perfect mirrored symmetry as seen in the images of Jonathan’s engine compartment. There are two types of Twin Turbo BMW engines, the TwinPower Turbo and the TwinTurbo Power. In both options, you'll find an exhaust manifold that's split into two headers. The TwinPower Turbo is one single turbo that comes with two exhaust down tubes. The TwinTurbo Power contains two turbos with two exhaust down tubes. Twin turbos don't guarantee a fast car. I've seen more than one twin turbo car car with a late model drivetrain run in the 12's. I've also seen several single turbo LS's run 13's or slower. They are not a magic solution that will make a car fast without the rest of the combination being sorted out. Steve R
